Our Approach
To Individual Therapy
At Raincross Family Counseling, we believe effective therapy begins with genuine connection. Our approach to individual therapy is guided by several key principles:
✔ Personalized Treatment
We recognize your experiences, challenges, and goals are unique to you. Our therapists take the time to understand your personal story before collaboratively developing a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs. This isn't one-size-fits-all therapy—it's care designed with you at the center.
✔ Culturally Responsive Care
Our deep roots in the Riverside community inform our understanding of the diverse cultural factors that shape your experiences. We strive to provide therapy that respects and incorporates your cultural background, values, and beliefs.
✔ Collaborative Relationship
We view therapy as a partnership. Your insights, feedback, and active participation are essential elements of the therapeutic process. We walk alongside you, offering guidance and support while honoring your autonomy and wisdom about your own life.
✔ Trauma-Informed Perspective
Many emotional difficulties have roots in past experiences that continue to impact present functioning. Our clinicians are specially trained to recognize and address trauma in ways that promote safety, empowerment, and healing.
✔ Whole-Person Focus
We understand that mental health doesn't exist in isolation from other aspects of your life. Our therapists consider the full context of your experiences, including relationships, physical health, and spiritual beliefs when appropriate.
✔ Evidence-Based Methods
Our therapists draw from a range of proven therapeutic approaches, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address unhelpful thought patterns and develop healthier perspectives and behaviors
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to identify practical solutions and build on your existing strengths
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for processing traumatic experiences and relieving their emotional impact
Motivational Interviewing to help clarify your goals and strengthen your commitment to change
Mindfulness-Based Therapies to develop present-moment awareness and emotional regulation skills
Faith-Based Counseling that integrates spiritual beliefs and practices with evidence-based therapeutic approaches
Throughout your therapy journey, we continuously assess progress and adjust our approach as needed, ensuring your treatment remains aligned with your evolving needs and goals.

Individual therapy can benefit nearly anyone facing challenges or seeking personal growth. Our initial consultation can help determine if individual therapy aligns with your specific needs.
-
Your first session primarily focuses on building rapport with your therapist and gathering information. Your therapist will ask questions about your current concerns, relevant history, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for whether the therapist is a good fit for you. Together, you'll begin developing a plan for moving forward.
-
The duration of therapy varies widely depending on your specific concerns, goals, and circumstances. Some people find significant relief in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term therapy. We regularly review progress with you and adjust the treatment plan accordingly. Our goal is to provide the support you need for as long as it's helpful, without creating unnecessary dependency.
-
Faith-based counseling at Raincross integrates spiritual beliefs and practices with evidence-based therapeutic approaches. This optional approach acknowledges the role that faith can play in healing and personal growth while maintaining professional therapeutic standards. Our faith-based counselors respect your specific beliefs and can incorporate prayer, scripture, or spiritual concepts when desired. This approach is entirely optional and based on your preferences—we serve clients of all faith backgrounds and those with no religious affiliation with equal care and respect.

Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of therapy. What you share in sessions remains private, with a few important exceptions required by law: if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of children or vulnerable adults, or in rare cases when records are court-ordered. Your therapist will discuss these limitations to confidentiality in detail during your first session.
